Leave a gift in your will

Why leave a gift in your will?

Every year Great Oaks Hospice touches the lives of well over 1000 people in the Forest of Dean, but we can only do that with your support. By leaving a precious gift in your Will, you can help to ensure that our team will be there for those with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones when they need us most, and your legacy will leave a lasting impact on the families in our community for generations to come. At Great Oaks, it is our mission to provide the best care and support for everyone in our community. Our skilled staff are there at the most difficult of times, providing end of life hospice at home care and support, with compassion and understanding, for not only the patient but their loved ones, families, friends, and carers.

Your legacy can make a lasting difference

We believe that no one should ever have to face a life-limiting illness alone and by leaving a gift in your will to Great Oaks Hospice, you will enable our specialist team to keep providing wellbeing services, complementary therapies, counselling, bereavement support and community care.

All gifts in wills, no matter what size, make a difference to the patients and loved ones supported by Great Oaks:

£450 could fund a counselling programme for someone who has been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness or their loved ones.

£1750 could enable our Hospice@Home team to provide 5 nights end-of-life care – delivering support to a patient overnight so their loved ones can get some much-needed rest.

£4950 could fund our twice monthly cancer support hub sessions for an entire year – providing a safe space for anyone affected by cancer to chat and receive support for any concerns they may have regarding their diagnosis, their treatment, their recovery, and themselves.

How to leave a gift to Great Oaks Hospice in your will

Leaving a charitable gift to Great Oaks Hospice is extremely easy to do.
There are three types of gifts that you might consider leaving in your will:

A Residuary Gift – this is a percentage or share of your estate once all your debts and other gifts have been paid. This way of giving ensures those you care for are catered for first and leaves the remainder to be distributed to causes which are important to you.

A Pecuniary Gift – this is a specific amount of money, e.g. £5000. As a fixed sum can decrease in value as the cost-of-living increases, you may want to talk your solicitor about index-linking the gift to ensure the relative value is maintained.

A Specific Gift - this is an item of value that you would like to leave as a gift, e.g. jewellery or a painting or property. Unless otherwise instructed, Items of value would then be sold at the best possible price and the funds raised used to support our essential services.

However, you decide to leave a gift the key details you will need for your will, to ensure your solicitor is able to pass on your gift, are as follows:

Our correct legal name: Great Oaks Hospice
Our address: The Gorse, Coleford, Gloucestershire, GL16 8QE
Our registered charity number: 1078186
